Algonquin Winter Backpacking, Part I: Packing for Winter

Below is a simple list of what I packed to ensure I was warm and safe camping in the snow.

  • 60 L Gregory Diva Backpack with XS small harness
  • Costco Cascade hiking poles (should have put the snow baskets on them)
  • MEC Winter sleeping bag: mixed synthetic and down (-12 degrees Celsius)
    • In 10L MEC dry compression sac

  • 1 kg egg noodles to feed 8 people for hotpot
  • Sweet potato wrapped in tin foil – won’t bring again
  • 2 x Quaker original oatmeal packs, a little brown sugar and walnuts
  • 2 x Starbucks instant coffee
  • Cup-o-noodle soup with couscous
  • Snacks – dried fruit, nuts, granola bar, turkey sticks, Baby Bells without the plastic wrap
  • Tea
