Bruce Trail – Blue Mountain End 2 End

When I saw an opportunity to complete an entire club that I hadn’t yet hiked in just two days, I knew I was signing up.

We arrived early, but apparently not early enough to catch Bus 1, which set off 30 mins before our bus. This being said we weren’t racing. The terrain was diverse and challenging in sections. We were thankful for the three pitstops along the trail each day. This allowed us to carry less, fuel up, top up our water and liberally add bug spray. We accidentally ended up off trail about 2 km at one point and had to backtrack. It added 4km to our 36km day 🫣. After the 3rd pitstop we had to hike up the other side of Devil’s Glen. I stubbed my toes hard 3 times in this section, which made the rest of the hike painfully more challenging. The Blue Mountain Club hosted a BBQ for participants at the end of Day 1, which was really nice. We could talk to other hikers we knew and new hikers we met along the day.

That evening we explored Collingwood’s Millennium Overlook Park on Georgian Bay. Then looked for a place to have dinner. We found Bent Taco. It is very urban and we decided it’s the coolest place in town. I got a the sci-fi lemonade that turns colour when it is stirred and the classic chicken tinga. In addition to the hotel hot tub, it was just what I needed for the next day

We arrived even earlier on Day 2 and parked further from the golf course. There were fewer people overall as some did not return to complete the second day of hiking. We were still were on Bus 2. This day was a little harder as my toes were very sore. We pushed through and part way through was given extra strength Advil. Wow that stuff works past when you’ve done 60km in 24 hours. The terrain was generally less challenging on day 2, but there was a section that went uphill for over 2kms. There was a short walk before another climb. Pretty River lived up to its name. We did not get lost this day 🙂. In the end, we completed both days in the middle of the pack of both buses with about a steady 5km/hr pace including our pitstops.

Kudos to the Blue Mountain Club for an excellently organized event.👏

Notes: We did this through the Blue Mountain Club. We parked at the Nordic Highlands club to catch the bus. Didn’t realize this was operating in the Summer as a golf course. The hood of my brand new vehicle was dinged.

Kilometers: The club is 65.9km. However, Day 1 was set at 35 km, plus the km to where we parked and the 4km km we added when we got lost. Day 2 was 30 km.
