In this episode we hiked 42.5km over two days along the Sydenham Section of the Bruce Trail from the Glen Management Area to Bruce’s Caves. This completed the Syndenham Club section for me, as I hiked Bruce’s Caves to the section end in Wiarton in 2023.
Highlights include gorgeous escarpments and magnificent vistas from Kemble Mountain Management Area and Skinner’s Bluff. We spotted erratics and fossils along the way. We explored Bruce’s Caves. The cows were out in full force but we saw forest animals too like blue jays, partridges, a toad. There were oh so many types of mushrooms. Notably, we came across our first bear warning signs on the Bruce Trail.
For those interested in backcountry camping, you will get a glimpse of the Bruce Trail Birch campsite as we hike by it.
For those interested in car camping, I share details of the Bluewater Campground in Wiarton. This includes our search for Wiarton Willie in the hopes for off season Groundhog Day.
